Outsiders think it’s warm year-round in L.A. It's amusing to let them think that, but we know the truth: that it gets unbearably cold at night. Around this time of year, particularly, I'm all about temperature control, because there's nothing I hate more than being too cold. Like, when I'm in my car, I'll have one window rolled down while the heat is blasting, to create the perfect body temp. It's the same concept with the flaming margaritas at El Compadre. I typically think of margaritas as a summer drink, but at this Hollywood haunt packed with rockers—Guitar Center, Mesa Boogie and Sam Ash are El Compadre's neighbors—the tequila cocktails come set on fire. Order one on the rocks made with Cuervo Gold tequila, or go all out with a fruity, slushy concoction like peach-coconut or mango-melon. But be warned: No one ever drinks just one, so if the fire on the drink doesn't heat you up, the booze certainly will.
