This is one classy--but never snobby--joint. Generous pouring keeps downtown's businessfolk pleasantly soused and loft-dwellers lit; but it's the bar itself that's literary, with a cozy library den built right in. Hemingway himself would have been proud to drink here with the dark wood and noir lighting, a deer-horn chandelier that seems almost fractal in its construction, and the grand bar, which features one of the finest beer selections in LA. The bartenders can help you choose the perfect stout or IPA, and can educate you on the particulars of a hoppy nose. Now with plans in the works of adding a kitchen, in-house chef and serving a "high-end food menu," you'll never want to leave. Kiss the beer snacks and sandwiches from the Wolfgang Puck Bistro next door goodbye. Hats off to Library Bar's co-creators, who also brought us the 4100, The Chalet, and Daddy's.
