Spotted: Paris Hilton throwing up the Daft Punk triangle while shaking her derrière tableside at LAX's Banana Split Sundaes. Odd, you might ask? Not anymore. The sounds of bands like Justice, MSTRKRFT and Daft Punk are infiltrating speakers and dance floors across town. Electroclash is breaking its way to the mainstream and revamping the club scene with dance parties like “Punch Mondays,” at Area every week. Known for catering to the likes of Playboy bunnies and “The Hills” cast members, Area recently swapped its usual hip-hop DJs for a night with DJs Marshall Barnes and Mr. White, both passionate supporters of the electro movement.  

The name “Punch Mondays” derives from the notion that electroclash—that fusion of new wave, punk and electronic music with synthesizers and drum machines—is changing the way we party (and dress!) by punching out stagnant nightlife trends and catching people off guard.

But how will the usual posh patrons of Area feel about hobnobbing with the edgy club kids of the next generation—and vice versa? We can only hope they don’t punch each other out.
