Even on a Monday, the place doesn't pick up until midnight. A few weeks ago I showed up at 11 p.m. and stared into the empty space for an hour. Lindsay Lohan's sometime-boyfriend Calum Best seemed just as bored because he texted while his friends stared into their beers. Yawn.
By midnight, the place was packed with a seriously beautiful crowd. Among them: a hot, shaggy-haired guy who introduced himself a horticulturist. "Horticulturist?" I asked. "Is that code for drug dealer?" He replied, deadpan: "Well no, I also grow tomatoes." [Serious eye-rolling moment.]
Five minutes later, it was the hot horticulturist rolling his eyes at Britney Spears’s grand entrance. He said something along the lines of there being bigger things going on in the world. (He also said he’d call my friend the next day…) Seriously though, Britney showed up in a backwards green satin dress that barely covered the mammaries, which I guess is better than showing off her Southern flaps, but still. Hot horticulturist had nothing to say. Maybe he was stoned.
Even when celebs don't show up, Mondays at Joseph's feel like you're at an A-list party, especially on the dimly lit Mediterranean-style patio where people mingle and make out in the smoke-filled air.
