After years of delays, followed by more than a month of private parties, 86 finally opened on Jan. 17 to clubbers who have been chomping at the bit to see the space that used to house Rudolph Valentino's infamous speakeasy.

And it was worth the wait.

Located in the basement of the Hillview apartments—and just below Lift restaurant—the club feels like a flashback to the 1920s. Not only is it oozing with glamour, but there's a feeling that you’re in on something not everyone has access to. This allure, of course, is something owner Steve Adelman mastered at his other venues, like Spider Club, the Moroccan playground where Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie allegedly had their secret rendezvous while Jennifer Aniston was still in the picture.

So far, scandalous celebrity gossip has been kept at bay, and the publicist won’t even confirm which celebs have been in. It’s the dolled-up clubbers who are the real stars anyway, as they crowd into circular red booths to watch cabaret and jazz acts onstage. Up a few steps, you’ll find a cozy, chandelier-lit lounge and a long bar, which serves classics like the hot toddy with a modern twist. And forget traditional bottle service, where you have to pay $300 just to sit down with a boring bottle of vodka: At 86, big spenders can partake in the "creative cocktailing," which is a fancy way of saying they can do things like make and muddle their own fresh-fruit martinis.

Behind the mysterious door in the lounge, there's a long blue smoking hallway lined with photos of famous smokers like Marilyn Monroe—talk about glamorizing the habit!—and on the other side of the bar, there's a gold-colored VIP lounge with a trippy light that looks like a tunnel and will make you think you smoked something of a more herbal variety. Not that anything illegal happens in this space—anymore, at least.
