The Troubadour is a genuinely legendary venue, established in 1957 and hosting a cavalcade of rock's biggest icons. Today it's one of (if not the) best venue to see new music live in Los Angeles, an intimate room with amazing sight lines all the way to the back behind the bar. Bloc Party, Patrick Wolf, Joanna Newsom and Lily Allen are some of the indie rock heroes that have recently graced the Troubadour's relatively tiny stage. If you're not up to jockeying for position down on the main floor, get there early to claim a prime spot upstairs on the balcony, with the best spot being the railing area that runs along the side of the club. If you're over 21, they'll probably set you up with a pass for the upstairs lounge, which is a nice getaway from the crush of a sold-out show. The door guys are cool, and you can step outside and have a smoke if you have a nic fit. There's bar food, but other than the grilled cheese sandwiches and baskets of deliciously greasy fries, eat before or after. You'll probably spot a celeb or two (Kirsten Dunst and Seal have both popped up for showcases) and definitely someone cute enough to talk to. And don't forget to send a Myspace friend request the next day!
