Since 1924, the HMS Bounty has occupied the bottom west side of the art deco Gaylord apartment building on Wilshire. Home to one of the most revered jukeboxes in L.A., the wood paneling, lantern lights and maroon leather chairs give the HMS a certain on-the-sea-meets-old-Hollywood aura that has created a legion of devotees who swear by the cheap drinks and captain's menu. Aye, plant your booty at the historic HMS Bounty watering hole. This icon among L.A. bars elegantly straddles the "neighborhood hang", "hipster haunt", "dive bar" and "Hollywood landmark" genres and is beloved by the building's own odd mix of grizzled old Hollywood denizens, musicians, artists and actors—as well as by anyone who likes a stiff drink and a flinty waitress. The Bounty also offers reasonably swell pub food like fish and chips, sand dabs and burgers. Seating's tight among the weathered banquettes, scale models of ships and seafarers' ephemera, so show up early and have someone save your seat when you get up to check out the jukebox.
