I ended up going to the bar formerly known as Cuffs. I always wondered what it looked like inside, but being that I was straight and didn't want to get my a** kicked by men in leather, I never dared. This place is great and when walking in Saturday night, it was near empty, besides the bartender and the DJ, I think there were about 6 of us in there enjoying the funky 70's soul and groove while watching Fast Times on the screen. This would be great if it stayed this way, but you know how this city works... nothing stays sacred for long, especially with a-hole writers from LA Weekly decide to announce it (ie, 4100 when it was Manzanita after it was U-Turn, The Echo, The Short Stop, all of Los Feliz.) Please, to all you wanna be hipsters coming from anywhere outside of Silverlake/ Los Feliz, STAY AWAY! Keep your 4100, Good Luck, Short Stop, Big Foot, Rustic and anything west of Western. I'd love for this place to stay as it is. It has the feel of Hotel Biron in S.F., only grittier. My friend got the feeling of being back in N.Y. in one of the old bars he'd frequent. Maybe if they just keep to beer being served it'll keep the city "hipster" nats away.
