The deal: Eat dinner at Blue Velvet and you’re likely to blow a good portion of your rent on tiny gourmet dishes that, delicious and inventive as they are, won’t satisfy your hunger. But come with 15 friends during happy hour and you’ll get spoiled! Drinks are $5, and chef Jonathan McDowell serves up a platter of designer appetizers that includes bites like grilled shrimp with avocado puree, pork rolls with shredded cabbage and spicy miso soup, and caprese flatbread with cherry tomatoes and Gruyere.
