When the Emmys were finally over, the stars quickly switched gears from obligatory-back-patting to complimentary-booze-guzzling at Downtown’s Disney Concert Hall. Entertainment Tonight and “People” Magazine joined forces, converting the space into a celeb-friendly hangout, where Emmy winners and their “just-happy-to-be-nominated” friends sipped “Entertain-mint Mojitos” and noshed on “Feta-terrian Pizza.” The climax of the evening was a surprise performance by Duran Duran, who rocked their best-of set like only an aging pop band can to a sea of party-pooped celebs—from Jon Voight to Felicity Huffman, to that lady who played the mom on “Growing Pains.” By night’s end, “America’s Next Top Model”’s Miss Jay Alexander complimented my outfit (sort of), a bartender dissed my camera (outrage!), and I swear I saw LeVar Burton photograph Kathy Griffin’s boobs (though I might have been drunk on Entertain-mint Mojitos by then).
