Martini

The first recorded martini recipe is from an 1883 text and was made with sweet vermouth. The "dry" version came to light in 1895. Rumor has it that Dr. Jerry Thomas invented the cocktail at San Francisco's Occidental Hotel for a traveler headed to the nearby town of Martinez.
