There's more than one way to watch women take their clothes off, and thank God for that. If our only option was Spearmint Rhino, we'd all have that guilty, penniless look that comes with false alibis and $40 lapdances. Luckily, there's burlesque. While there's still plenty of nudity, burlesque is a lot more than just stripping, and often incorporates elements of acrobatics, live music, magic, comedy and even pyrotechnics. It's the kind of sexy experience that you're encouraged to bring your significant other to. In some cases, it's that all-too-rare kind of partial nudity that's fun for the whole family! We're still looking for a strip club that offers that experience, although the buffet at Crazy Girls is definitely a step in the right direction.
Burlesque shows guide
Cabaret the night away

The Super Sexy Burlesque Show at El Cid
- El Cid - 4212 W. Sunset Blvd. - Silver Lake
Experience textbook burlesque fun at this bi-monthly show with a straight-to-the-point name, "Super Sexy Burlesque Show." The Hollywood Pinup Girls reach out to ladies and gentlemen to experience their "titillating, tassel twirling" night. (The entendres and alliteration were theirs, as much as we'd like to take credit). The show immediately follows their flamenco dancing, so if your eyes can handle it, make it a marathon night!
Monday Night Tease at Three Clubs
- Three Clubs Cocktail Lounge - 1123 Vine St. - Hollywood
Monday Night Tease is the chain-smoking, whiskey-drinking, curse-like-a-sailor Godmother of them all. If the L.A. burlesque scene has a heart, it's somewhere close to Lili VonSchtupp's double-D chest, which she's quick to point out is "all natural." She hosts the show with fellow high-kicking veteran Scarlett Letter. The show is constantly changing, and upcoming themes include the sexier sides of Shakespeare and The Muppet Show.
Bordello
901 E. 1st St. - Los AngelesBordellos have always been a reliable place to find the kind of women that get you in trouble, and with a steady schedule of upcoming burlesque shows, our Bordello is no different. Featured shows include "Peepshow Menagerie's Televangelesque" presented by Scarlett Letter as well as The Del Rey Burlesque on Sundays.
The Lucent Dossier Experience at the Edison
- The Edison - 108 W. 2nd St. #101 - Downtown
The Lucent Dossier Experience is what happens when the gloves come off, the thinking is taken way outside of the box, and limitations are shattered. On Wednesday nights, at 15 minute intervals from 9 p.m. to midnight, the internationally acclaimed troupe puts on a show that includes everything from fire dancers, aerial silk performers, belly dancers, contortionists, burlesque dancers and "actors who hang from the rafters." The list might look like a mash-up of strange and dangerous things, but we promise, they know what they're doing.
Big Willie’s Burlesque at Bardot
- Bardot - 1735 N. Vine St. - Los Angeles
Bardot would have a hard time maintaining their '20s-era vibe without a killer burlesque show. Luckily, they have Big Willie's legendary burlesque show every Monday to keep the mood less 2008 recession, and more 1929 depression. Back then, being broke was fashionable.
Speakeasy Sundays at Anarchy Library
- Anarchy Library - 13250 Woodruff Ave. - Downey
Burlesque gets a punk makeover at Speakeasy Sundays. From 8:30 p.m. to 2 a.m., this punk staple in Downey gives cabaret the full treatment, with live music, beautiful women dancing against the establishment, and no cover.
Upper Manhattan Lounge
3600 Highland Ave. - Manhattan BeachOne of the classier burlesque shows is found in—where else—Manhattan Beach. With its strict dress code and distinguished clientèle, the Upper Manhattan Lounge provides a most dignified way to ogle at nearly naked women. Shows take place Friday and Saturday 8:15 p.m., 9:15 p.m., 10:30 p.m.
Burlesque show at Eastside Luv
- Eastside Luv Wine Bar y Queso - Mariachi Plaza - 1835 E. First St. - Boyle Heights
On Saturdays, this late-night cabaret caters to the burlesque connoisseur, with styles ranging from traditional 1940s to modern. The featured dancer, "La Cholita," makes sure this show sells out pretty quick, so get there early.
Maxwell DeMille's Cicada Club
- Cicada - 617 S. Olive St. - Downtown
Long before bands had names like Maroon 5 and, um, Hoobustank, a promotional poster might have looked like this: Maxwell DeMille presents Rhythm and Rouge, featuring Dean Mora and his Music Makers, and a live performance by the Satin Dollz! Looks like we've lost some flair over the years, but Cicada Club's bringing a little bit back every Sunday.
