It's beginning to look a lot like 1933, what with the empty pockets and the new president and such. 1933 was also the year the U.S. government passed the 21st amendement, after realizing what a bad idea it was to take our booze away. To truly celebrate the repeal of prohibition, we would all have to stop drinking for 13 years. Since none of us have that kind of time, or restraint, let's just try not to drink before noon, then head to one of these bona fide Repeal Day parties! Celebrate in style by dressing up as a flapper or a gangster. (If your Wu-Wear hat has a hologram sticker on the bill, you've got the wrong gangster outfit.)

R Bar

Hmm, is it possible no one at R Bar got the memo that the prohibition is over? They still ask for a password before you can enter, which would probably be a pretty effective way to keep the Alcohol Tax Unit out, if the password wasn't posted on their Myspace page. Oh well, it's a lot of fun, and they perfect throwback to the days before the repeal.
Soup Kitchen Fridays at the Edison

Fridays : 5 p.m. - 7 p.m.
Wow, the Edison isn't playing around... they're dedicating a special Repeal Day edition of their weekly Soup Kitchen to the Women's Temperance Leauge! That's harsh. To ease the sting, they're offering up a batch of their own Woodford Reserve bourbon at midnight, with a live performance by 26-year-old jazz phenom Miles Mosley.
