We know New Year's resolutions seem impossible to follow. Every year you remember that monumental hangover with remorse and a promise that it won’t happen again. You swear off drinking but accidentally wind up wasted two days later. You want to quit smoking but can’t even make it one day. And forget losing the holiday pounds. It seems discouraging, but it can be easy. Try chasing a shot of wheatgrass with fresh Apple Lemon Triple Ginger juice, sitting back, and letting your body thank you. At least until you fall off the wagon again.
Beverly Hills Juice Club

Beverly Hills Juice Club

8382 Beverly Blvd., Beverly Hills
323-655-8300

A trip to David Otto’s tiny, white juice laboratory is like a painless doctor’s visit—he will prescribe the perfect juice or smoothie for whatever ails you. And, he makes a mean wheatgrass shot. Whether you drink the Apple Lemon Ginger juice to cleanse your system, or a green juice chock-full of veggies, these detoxifiers are refreshing and affordable.

Juliano's Raw

Juliano's Raw

609 Broadway, Santa Monica
310-587-1552

This vegan, raw-food restaurant may be foreign ground for the meat-eaters out there, but even if cheese made from nuts isn’t up your alley, Juliano’s juices and smoothies will definitely appeal to your palate. Try Blood (as in Fuji apple blood) or the Blueberry Instant Cleanse, loaded with gogi berry and bee pollen, for an instant pick-me-up.

Simpang Asia

Simpang Asia

10433 National Blvd., Los Angeles
310-815-9075

This Indonesian café is a popular local hangout with great food, exotic groceries and sweet smoothies. With ingredients and combinations you’d never find at Jamba Juice, their most popular frozen concoction is Es Teler. Blended jackfruit, coconut, avocado and condensed milk may sound scary, but the New Year is the perfect time to try something new.

The Juice Fountain

The Juice Fountain

6332 Hollywood Blvd., Los Angeles
323-464-8986

This family-owned juice bar is practically a Hollywood institution, having survived a move from its original location on Vine. Angelenos swear by their fresh smoothies and juices, which are both healthy and tasty. Regulars’ favorite is the Blackberry Cream shake made with fresh blackberries, yogurt and honey.

Yogotango

Yogotango

1300 N. Highland Ave., Hollywood
323-466-7724

A fierce competitor for Pinkberry, devotees of Yogotango love the real yogurt and do-it-yourself toppings, but their smoothies will really help you get over the post-holiday hangover blues. Their mixed berry and strawberry smoothies made with fresh fruit and yogurt are what keep customers coming back—and avoiding their rival’s long lines.

Dave's Chillin-n-Grillin

Dave's Chillin-n-Grillin

2152 Colorado Blvd., Eagle Rock
323-490-0988

Rave reviews claim Dave makes the best smoothies in town. Using no ice, these frozen concoctions are all fruit, juice and sherbet—nothing's watered down, ensuring that the sweet, fresh flavors burst through. Berry Blast and Peach Mango are popular flavors, and the delicious Cherry Lime Rickey will surely curb your alcohol craving.

Real Raw Live

Real Raw Live

5913 Franklin Ave., Los Angeles
323-461-4545

Still missing lemon drops and red-headed sluts? This Hollywood shop offers a wide variety of wellness shots, as well as fresh-squeezed juices and antioxidant- and vitamin-packed smoothies. Try the Hangover Tonic or Crystal Manna shots along with a Monk Shake, and you’ll forget Jäger even existed!

Dr. Tea’s Tea Garden & Herbal Emporium

8612 Melrose Ave., West Hollywood
310-657-9300

This café’s tranquil tea-garden setting will calm your nerves as smoothie-like blended tea-drinks balance your body. White tea with white peach and peony is packed with antioxidants, and is handpicked by monkeys—humans can’t reach the high altitudes where it grows—assuring this cocktail is way more exotic than anything at your neighborhood bar.

Leaf Cuisine

Leaf Cuisine

11938 W. Washington Blvd., Los Angeles
310-390-6005

Smoothies and fresh juices are the house specialties at this living-food restaurant—fitting, since the restaurant’s mantra is to not heat any food over 110 degrees. Their huge smoothies will leave you feeling healthy and full, and you can even pretend the frozen Mudslide Slim drink of bananas, dates and almond milk is the real, alcoholic thing.
