Matsumi Kanemitsu - California, 1960s -1970s
Hollywood Hills Ghost, 1970
Originally an abstract painter of the 1950s New York School, Matsumi Kanemitsu (nicknamed "Mike" by Jackson Pollock) was invited to come and live in Los Angeles in 1961. There, he began working on lithographs— a form of print-making that transfers art or text onto a smooth surface, usually paper—and took to the medium almost immediately. LACMA presents an exhibition of Kanemitsu's work from that period.

Through June 15
