Q:  A co-worker wants to carpool, and I know it's good for the planet, but I'm just not up for that kind of togetherness. Thoughts?

Music is the answer. Say "yes" to the carpool idea, but warn your co-worker that you can't drive without your “special driving music.” I've noticed that when I play certain kinds of music, 99.9 percent of the people I know want to leave the vicinity. The 0.1 percent who stay and listen are amongst my closest friends.

On your first carpool trip, may I recommend some industrial hardcore of the Big Black variety—it'll make most people's commute unbearable. If that doesn't work, then try some Japanese Noisecore. After their ears bleed a little they won't want to be in your passenger seat any longer. If all else fails, then it's time for you to sing...the same song...over and over. I suggest A-ha's "Take On Me."  Bon voyage.
