Gather 15 paltry bucks and head to the Fake Gallery Friday to experience the oral delights of WordPlay, a theatrical, comedic storytelling bonanza that pairs some of L.A.’s comedy geniuses with a DJ who supplies the soundtrack to their all-too-real stories of human foible. Plus, there’ll be free beer. While researching (aka “watching YouTube at work”), we stumbled across this gem of a sound bite from WordPlay regular Alan Olifson, regarding his quest to become a rock star: “I learned that it’s a long road between signing up for drum lessons and burning down a hotel room by dousing a hooker in grain alcohol.” Yep, we’ll see you there.

4319 Melrose Ave., East Hollywood; 8:30 p.m.-10 p.m.; $15 ($10 in advance)

Saturday, January 17: ‘Hyperbolic Crochet Coral Reef’ at Track 16 Gallery»
