Friday, November 21: ‘Nerdcore Rising’ at Studio 1636

A delicious sound bite from Negin Farsad's 2008 documentary Nerdcore Rising aptly describes the genre of nerdcore hip-hop: “Well, it's kind of like regular hip-hop, but with the word ‘nerdcore’ in front of it.” True, yes, but it's also rife with MCs with dork-soaked names like Frontalot, Optimus Rhyme and Emergency Pizza Party. Hit this screening for an up-close look at what happens when clinically geeky people sputter and rap about topics such as computer programming, science fiction and Magic: The Gathering. (Two points if you remember that game; 10 points if you still have your deck. Don't judge us!)

1636 Wilcox Ave., Hollywood; 8 p.m.; TK with RSVP to nerdcorerisingla@gmail.com
