Okay, the last time you attended spoken word it was because your girlfriend dragged you along or you sat hoping the dude jamming on the bongos was The One. Think again.

Chi Chi's Word Parlour is an hour packed with tail wagging music, stories that make your worst childhood embarrassments seem okay and poems full of woe and belly laughs. One highlight is "Lockdown," where a series of mad lib-esque responses sends two writers into the back room for thirty minutes to improvise a narrative on the fly. When we asked producing partner Marilyn Friedman (also founder of the literary workshop Writing Pad) where the name Chi Chi originated, she responded coquettishly with: "Chi Chi is a fabulously wealthy and traveled woman who has yet to appear at the parlour, but if you keep coming…she is bound to show up." I think this might mean Marilyn's going to get out her glad rags and do her best Liza Minelli. Don’t miss that — or the gourmet cheese and vino. All for a mere five smackers. Word!
