You can always tell a Luke Chueh piece as soon as you walk into a group show—it's the one with a red dot next to it. Any collective exhibit worth its salt usually has a smattering of Chueh's darkly comic, bloodied bunnies or bears grappling with some sort of human-based catastrophe. And they always get snapped up the second the door creaks open.

But the Fresno-raised cult hero has Gallery 1988 all to himself with this week's opening of the solo show "Paintings of Hope and Hopelessness."  A fleeting glance at the flyer reveals that Chueh is staying true to his deeply emotive take on the world, and still digs bloody animals. And we're pretty sure that the line, as usual, will be down the block at '88 and that Chueh's highly collectable work will be snatched up in a blink by frothing-mouthed art whores. We just wish we were one of them.

"Paintings of Hope and Hopelessness" opens September 6 with a reception from 7 p.m.-10p.m. Chueh's snuggly evisceration will be on display through October 1 at Gallery 1988.
