It was always something of a guilty pleasure to drive through the twinkly promenade of the Holiday Light Festival every year. Yes, the colorful light displays of wintry scenery were lovely, but idling in a car for an hour to sit in a Santa-themed traffic jam was a bit much. This year, the Department of Water and Power got hip to the eco-push and closed down the route to vehicles for a few weeks, making for a safe moonlit walk through the park to see the displays without choking Mother Earth with carbon monoxide. Come Dec. 8, gas hogs can drive through again, but until then, bust out your winter flip-flops for a leisurely stroll.
