Just because people in TV commercials are wearing earmuffs doesn’t make it winter in L.A. But haul a slab of solid ice near the beach, and that’s a close enough approximation for most Angelenos. Head to Santa Monica for ice skating through January, pretend you’re gliding on a frozen lake in Minnesota, and then hit the beach for a tan afterward. Bonus: take your admission bracelet to Starbucks, and you’ll receive a free hot beverage. (Maybe you can get that iced.)
