OBJECT presents Lady Party
For everyone who considers the American feminist movement limited to televised jello wrestling between Rosie O'Donnell and Elisabeth Hasslebeck, please take a moment while we recalibrate your expectations.

There are women who are neither hulking, furrow-browed lesbians, nor waify Neo-conservatives, and they are alive and opinionated right here in our fair city. One group in particular, OBJECT, convened first in bars over nachos and tequila to banter about women, the media, and the complexities of young socialites flashing their ladyparts at TMZ.com.

The group's mantra—"Object: it's how you say it"—is an essay in and of itself, but Tuesday, these sharp-witted women take over the the Echoplex for a Lady Party subtitled “F*ck Christopher Hitchens, 10 Funny Female Acts in 10 Minutes.” (The British poli-sci author recently published an essay on why, exactly, women are not funny. Hey thanks, assface.)

A step up from chatting over tortilla chips, the night of comedy, music and hilariously cheeky readings features author Jessica Valenti, plus faces from “The Office,” “Reno 911,” “The 40-Year-Old Virgin” and The Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre. To boot, an all-female Journey cover band brings on the awesome, and the evening is MC'd by Jill Solloway, the same woman who brought you the legendary essay "Courtney Cox's *sshole" and wrote for Six Feet Under.

For those hoping this city has a deeper side, we suggest you pony up the five bucks to spend an evening opening your media-addled mind.

When: Tuesday, July 17th, 8 p.m.

Where: The Echoplex, 1822 W. Sunset Blvd., Echo Park (underneath The Echo)

Why: Because there's more to this town than Botox and hair extensions. We hope.
