What: The folks at the collective Fallen Fruit have made an art out of standing under avocado trees with open arms and publishing maps of the L.A. streets heavy with fruit surplus. Who knew your creepy neighbor’s lemons could be yours if the branch overhangs the sidewalk? Have yourself an urban harvest and then head to Machine Project with an armload of fruity booty (store-bought or “locally” harvested). The Fallen Fruiters will show you how to fill jam jars with the sugary preserves of your efforts.
Why: While you may grab figs from your neighbor’s tree, it’s not cool to go into their cabinets and steal their jam. So you gotta make your own, dude.
Pickin and pectin for it: Machine Project, 1200d N. Alvarado St., Echo Park; 3 p.m.; free
