Malin House, or "Chemosphere"
July 13 - Oct. 12: Architect John Lautner is single-handedly responsible for those space-age buildings in Los Angeles that made people stop and stare, dreamily imagining a future of sleek "Jetsons"-like proportions. The Hammer Museum takes a look back at six decades of his iconoclastic, often misunderstood, constructions that helped define L.A. as a city with its nose fearlessly pointed towards the future.
As a sort of witty tribute, the Hammer will be screening films that have made use Lautner's houses. As an added, but pricey, bonus, tours of Lautner's houses will also be available on July 27 and Sept. 14 for $145. See website for more details.
