Charles Burchfield, "The Night Wind"
(Credit: Hammer Museum)
Although Charles Burchfield probably wouldn't have identified himself as such, his paintings themselves have come to characterize the New York-based artist as a man equally concerned with life as with art. But what does this mean? You just have to see for yourself. The new exhibit of Burchfield's art and voluminious journals includes about half of the pieces that appeared in Burchfield's first exhibtion at New York's MoMA in 1930.
