Art attack: the Brewery spring art walk
“Wrench 1,” Kelly Reemtsen, oil on panel, 36"x36"
If weekend plane tickets to Portland are too costly, we invite you to harness the same kicked-back bohemian vibe with a trip to the Brewery Art Complex, a real live art colony in L.A.'s own abandoned Pabst distillery.
Twice a year, hundreds of artists open up their studios/living rooms and invite the general public to wander through their lofts, pet their cats and see their latest work. Buy a beer in the courtyard, grab a map and explore, making sure to see Dave Lefner's intricate and painstakingly executed linoleum-cut reversal prints (he'll explain what that means) and Guillermo Bert's "Bar-Code" series, rife with political dissent and sharp wit. This year, we're also eager to see the work of Kelly Reemtsen (left), who just rocked a big solo show of stark, poppy paintings of dresses and furniture. Oh, and we may stop in and look at some robots. And those costume people who make the rubber pants.
