For chamber music, go to the museum or go to church. The Los Angeles County Museum of Art's Sunday chamber music series is hit or miss, but it's always free. And churches around town are packed with music, day and night. Not all of it is free but much is, and when it's not, ticket prices tend to be a fraction of those in concert halls.
