Just across the Glendale Boulevard bridge, what could pass as a fleet of same-ish buildings when you’re driving is actually, when viewed afoot, a bounty of shops, restaurants and low-key locales. Maybe not as aesthetically pleasing as richie cousin Silverlake, there’s still lots to unearth if you let your feet do the walkin’. Try parking on a side street like Madera or Larga.

This neighborhood store loves itself some Atwater Village. In addition to (Heart) Atwater Village t-shirts, you'll find all sorts of yummy gifts from stationery products (cards, moleskine journals) to hardbound art anthologies to fortune telling fish.

Because everyone needs a little refreshment, this impressively-facaded sundries mart might also be known to "Ugly Betty" fans as the place where Santos was killed. Pretty impressive, as the show is supposed to take place in Queens.

This longtime Atwater Village dive gives off an old-school vibe with wood paneled walls and Frank Sinatra black and white glossies on the wall. There's plenty of seating in cozy leather booths and the jukebox has a good mix of rock to brat pack standards.

Canele is a relative newcomer is this neighborhood of hipsters and industry-types. The kitchen is open and the intimate dining room is often filled with tantilizing aromas: trout with potatoes and shallots, roast lamb, pork loin, house-made creme brulee.
