On paper, Cole's and Bar Centro couldn't be more different. Cole's is a century-old restaurant and bar in Downtown L.A., lovingly restored to its original glamour and specializing in old-school libations like the Sazerac and the Champagne cocktail. Bar Centro, located within the Bazaar at the new SLS Hotel, is a sparkling new space that's home to cutting-edge culinary experiments. (Ever had a daiquiri made with liquid nitrogen?) But Cole's and Bar Centro share an appreciation for the classic cocktail and the craft of bartending. This week in Metromix, we explore just how these mix masters are shaking things up.
Also this week, we tell ghost stories with Okkervil River, round up some hip Hanukkah events, do off-campus dining right at McKay's, and get some gift-giving help from our favorite shopkeepers. Check it out in the free print edition of Metromix, available citywide, and here on metromix.com.
