An arm bursts unexpectedly out of a grave. A man takes an axe to the bathroom door as his wife screams for mercy inside. A simple-minded inmate brings a mouse back to life. A young boy captivates his friends with the touching story of a "barf-o-rama."

Each of those scenes come from movies inspired by the work of Stephen King. One of the most famous authors in the world, King's work has led to over twenty TV projects, dozens of short films and over thirty feature films. From 1976's "Carrie" to the latest adaptation, "1408" (opening June 22), many of King's movies have scored at the box office, with critics and even at the Oscars. Of course many of them were outright flops too.

Take a look back at thirteen of King's most memorable movie adaptations.
