PICK OF THE WEEK: SPIDER-MAN 3

One of the year's greatest movie debates rages on with the arrival of "Spider-Man 3" on DVD: does it, or does it not, suck?

Spidey's third outing remains the year's top grossing movie (with a comfortable $15 million lead on second place "Shrek the Third"), but it seemed to leave an awful lot of fans disappointed. Among the biggest complaints: Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) exploring his darker side (and getting his boogie on like a "Saturday Night Fever"-era John Travolta), the most villains yet (Sandman! Venom! a new Green Goblin!) and an exceptionally whiny Mary Jane (Kirsten Dunst).

But the film's studio, Sony, is betting loyal followers will snap up the discs regardless and there's also hope it could be one of the biggest releases yet for the company's fledgling high-definition Blu-ray format. Blu-ray buffs can pick up just the threequel or a boxed set of all three "Spider-Man" adventures to check out the webbed-one with exceptional video and audio quality.

Bonus features on the Blu-ray and old-fashioned DVD special edition include two audio commentaries—one with cast members Maguire, Dunst, James Franco, Thomas Haden Church and Bryce Dallas Howard, and another with crew members including three producers—outtakes, trailers, video game previews and extensive behind-the-scenes material focusing on the villains, locations, special effects, story and the movie's most dazzling sequence: the skyscraper disaster.
