PICK OF THE WEEK: SUPERBAD

Now that 2007 has almost come to a close we can officially state that it was a major breakthrough year for Judd Apatow. This was the year when the name of the former "Freaks and Geeks" producer became an adjective. After the twin summer success of "Knocked Up" (which he wrote and directed) and "Superbad" (which he produced) movies can now officially be classified as "Apatowian" (def. a comedy that impressively blends lowbrow humor with relatable characters and a sweet emotional core—even if it usually runs 10 to 15 minutes too long).

And 2007 was a breakout year for Seth Rogen, who previously collaborated with Apatow on "Freaks," "Undeclared" and "The 40-Year-Old Virgin," but really came into his own with a starring role in "Knocked Up" and a supporting role in "Superbad," which he also happened to co-write.

And 2007 was the year when Michael Cera proved he was much more than just George Michael Bluth from TV's late, great "Arrested Development," thanks to a starring role in "Superbad," a co-starring role in Oscar contender "Juno" and the cult favorite Internet shorts "Clark and Michael."

With all this breakout talent there's hardly even room to mention what "Superbad" is actually about—three high school kids want to lose their virginity before going to college. And while the movie is hilariously, quotably crude, it's also sweet and smart and, you know, Apatowian.

"Superbad's" unrated two-disc special edition DVD includes plentiful bonus features: behind-the-scenes featurettes, deleted and extended scenes, a gag reel, audition footage, table reads, on-set diaries, an advance look at next summer's Apatow-produced/Rogen-starring "Pineapple Express" and lots of jokey bits including something called "Vag-tastic Voyage."

And if you demand your filthy teen comedies in the highest definition possible, "Superbad" is also available on Blu-ray.
