“Knocked Up” (2007)
The story: Just re-read the description of "Nine Months" and mentally replace "girlfriend" with "one-night stand."
Bromance rating: 9. The leading man (Seth Rogen) loves marijuana and female nudity in movies. Need we say more?
Was it successful?: Yes, more than twice as successful as "Nine Months," as a matter of fact! (Total gross: $148.7 million.) Credit more authentic, pop-culture-reference-and-obscenity-filled male banter (penned with ingenuity by writer-director Judd Apatow); an honest portrayal of Rogen’s character’s baby-phobic selfishness; and a scruffy, overweight guy lacking in Grant's charm paired with a blonde knockout (Katherine Heigl) more conventionally pretty than Moore. It's a setup that risks being sexist, but if future “bromantic comedies” have as many gender-barrier-breaking big laughs as "Knocked Up," it'll be hard to take much offense.
