"The Savages" is such a consummate showcase for Linney's extraordinary talents that it's nothing short of shocking that she has yet to receive a major nomination for her performance. Maybe it's because her portrayal of aspiring playwright Wendy Savage is so recognizably human that there doesn't seem to be any acting there at all. Linney simply becomes Wendy. But isn't that the worthiest accomplishment of all? —G.B.
