The apology: "Ghostbusters II"
Why apologize?: “Saturday Night Live” vet Bill Murray agreed to star in the ‘80s comedy classic “Ghostbusters” in exchange for the studio financing his dramatic starring vehicle, a contemplative W. Somerset Maugham adaptation “The Razor’s Edge.” “Razor” tanked definitively, and a “Ghostbusters” sequel became inevitable.
Did it work?: For the most part, yes. The sequel grossed over $100 million, a box-office milestone in the late ‘80s, and if it wasn’t the pop-cultural behemoth the original was, well, how could it have been? But Murray got the last laugh. Many of his recent successes, including “Lost in Translation,” have more in common with the sad-clown of “Razor.”
