Big question: Is this subtitled French flick strictly for Francophiles?
Skip it: Although the film begins with Jonathan declaring himself the narrator and apologizing for addressing the camera, "Dans Paris" (translation: "Inside Paris") isn't as overly precious as might be expected. But it still feels like a group of friends got together to make a movie without much vision or purpose. That approach wears thin fast, even with a 90 minute running time.
Catch it: If relentlessly talky contemporary New Wave movies are your favorite kind of films. Or you just want to see some naked French movie stars.
Bottom line: Despite solid performances from Duris and Garrel (in roles written specifically for them), there isn't enough to "Dans Paris" to make it a trip worth taking.
Bonus: Clearly music is a universal language, as a lengthy sequence featuring a depressed Paul mumbling/singing along to an English-language tune proves.
