All Mod Cons: Tegan and Sara
What is it about these two? There’s obviously something special about Tegan and Sara, if their legions of hopelessly devoted fans are any indication (I'm looking at you, Hook). I mean, sure, there’s the whole hot-Canadian-twin-sisters-that-also-happen-to-be-lesbians thing, a particular combination that attracts a lot of attention (maybe you saw them rocking out on Showtime's "The L Word." I, sadly, have not. Got Season 4 on DVD?)

But the magic is in the music. They compose quirky but catchy pop-rock that has a tendency to stick in your ears after only a few spins. Take the song “Walking Like a Ghost.” Hear it once, and it’s rattling around in your head for days. Enough that the White Stripes (who know a thing or two about picking cover tunes) recorded a blistering version of the song.

Now the lasses are back with their latest long-player, “The Con,” due in stores on July 24, just a couple of days before their extremely sold out two-night stand at the Malibu Performing Arts Center this week. Of course, it’s been leaking all over the interwebs, so the crowd will probably be singing along to the new songs with gusto. From what we’ve heard from the album, they’ve turned everything up – the vocals are brighter, the melodies stickier, the arrangements more meticulous and ready for heavy rotation on your more discriminating playlists and radio stations.

Don’t fret if you were shut out of these shows — they’ll be back in Los Angeles this Fall, headlining a show at the date-tastic Orpheum Theatre. Chances are that one’s going to sell out pretty quickly too, so hop to it. Move, people!
