Santa Monica native Daedelus (aka Alfred Darlington) has crafted all sorts of eclectic beats for the elite artists of plugged-in labels such as Warp, Stones Throw and Ninja Tune. To celebrate the release of his kaleidoscopic new release “Love to Make Music To,” big D has assembled a killer lineup of like-minded music makers to descend on Downtown L.A. for the hottest underground throwdown summer 2008 has seen yet.

L.A.-based space-hop superstar Flying Lotus (aka Steven Ellison) will be dropping beats from his recently released album on the Warp label, appropriately titled “Los Angeles,” while Obey recording artist and Portishead favorite Gaslamp Killer reps Mount Washington with his menacing new mix CD, “I Spit on Your Grave.” Being an Obey release, they’ve got the merch game tight, with a limited edition of 500 Shepard Fairey prints of the cover and a drool-worthy box set limited to 1000. The party kicks of with a top-shelf supporting cast featuring Thavius Beck, Kutman, Samiyam and Josh One.

Daedelus, still fresh from a cameo in Erykah Badu’s “Honey” video, will debut his latest collection of freak beats, of which there are plenty to be found on “Love to Make Music To.” Opening with a summery blast of Go! Team-styled dance-pop (“Fair Weather Friends”), the album never repeats itself. Daedelus leaps from the rave-rap of “Touchtone” (with Paperboy and Taz Arnold of Sa-Ra fame) to the New Jack Swing of “My Beau,” which samples K.P. & Envyi’s eternal R&B hit “Swing My Way.”

With the promise of surprise guests, the only reason to miss this beat bonanza is because you’re stuck outside in line. Avoid the heartbreak and get there on the early side. You’re welcome.

The Daedelus record-release party is happening at an undisclosed location in Downtown L.A. Get tickets and details at groovetickets.com.
