This cavernous space located underneath L.A.'s premiere new music venue is a genuine discovery. Big, dark and loud, the vibe is reminiscent of the early '90s rave scene. Already hosting massive international underground stars like the Klaxons, M.I.A. and the Ed Banger DJ posse, the Echoplex (AKA The Ex_Plx) is an ideal spot for getting down and dirty to the latest and greatest in emerging sounds. Franki Chan has just brought his scenester orgy Check Yo Ponytail here for bi-weekly throwdowns, booking new-school acts like Toronto electro-terrorists Crystal Castles. Don't be surprised to see Echoplex party kids wearing their sunglasses at night. It's because their futures are so bright, of course. The back patio is the requisite see-and-be-seen people-watching extravaganza, where you might run into designer Jeremy Scott or get handed a free popsicle. Anything goes when you're in the Echoplex.
