The Mahones
Credit:Stumble Records
Founded in: 1990
Hometown: Kingston, Ontario
Claim to fame: Although they’re from Canada, the Mahones were hired on by Disney to write and record the theme song for the 1996 film “Celtic Pride” starring Damon Wayans and Dan Aykroyd, about a couple of overzealous Boston Celtics basketball fans who kidnap an opposing team’s star player. Presumably, Disney was not yet familiar with the Boston Irish punk stylings of the Dropkick Murphys, who formed that same year.
Did you know? The band’s bassist, Joe Chithalen, died after a gig in Amsterdam in 1999, reportedly from an allergic reaction to eating peanuts.
