i don't think i've ever had a worse experience at a restaurant in the greater los angeles area. the waffle was recommended to my sister and i by a friend so we decided to stop by around noon on a thursday. i'm going to write a list of all the things that happened:
#1: we were seated at a table right next to the door that people kept leaving open even though it was horribly windy outside. the hostess also stood right next to the door but never closed it so i had to get up multiple times during the meal to shut it. also, there were plenty of other two person tables that were empty. don't know why she chose to give us that one.
#2: i ordered an iced coffee and when the waitress brought it to me she did not give me any milk or cream. she left before i noticed and it took me a good 5 minutes to get the attention of anyone working there. finally i got the attention of the hostess. this was our conversation:
me: "hi, could i please get some milk for my coffee?"
hostess: "i'm sorry, you want a glass of milk?"
me: "yes i would like some milk or cream for my coffee"
hostess: "oh, cream. okay."
and scene.
#3: i ordered a couple of eggs over easy that came with bacon that came with a choice of hash browns, fruit or cottage cheese plus your choice of toast. i am allergic to yeast and it is also passover so even if i wanted to eat toast i couldn't. when i ordered i asked the waitress if i could sub some cottage cheese for toast. she told me they didn't do substitutions. great. because it's so hard to put a scoop of ready made cottage cheese on a plate instead of toast. awesome, thanks.
#4: when the food arrived i cut into my eggs and discovered they were incredibly under done. it was like they threw some eggs into a frying pan and cooked them until just the outside was white therefore leaving the insides completely clear and uncooked. yum. again it took a while to get our waitress and she took them away and then returned to ask if that was how i ordered it. i said no i ordered them over easy, not undercooked. she brought them back and there were parts that were still clear but i said forget it..i'd eat around it.
#5: after we were done with our food she came by again and we asked for the check and then for some reason she took my sister's unfinished drink away from her. she had a glass of orange juice that was half full and instead of asking if she was finished she just took it away. idiot.

the best part of this entire experience was the check came quickly and we got to leave!

I was so excited to try out The Waffle since I have been craving a new breakfast spot in that area for a while. I was so impressed by their selection of waffles - cornbread jalapeno? sticky bun waffle? Yum! What I love is this place is open 22 hours and they serve the entire menu any time, day or night. My friend had the mac and cheese at 10am and it was incredible. The place was packed with a really great crowd and the classic rock music matched the retro decor. The service was friendly and punctual. Everyone in the place looked like they were enjoying themselves. I will definitely be back for dinner and to check out the full bar/lounge upstairs!
