An eye on: hotel dining
Swingers in the Beverly Laurel Motor Hotel
Swingers
Room: Beverly Laurel Motor Hotel
Scene: A grunge-meets-Andy-Warhol take on an all-American coffee shop, frequented by famished hipsters and celebrity wannabes; think Vince Vaughn in the lean years circa the other "Swingers."
Cuisine: Comfort food with a healthy edge—pork chop and eggs alongside tofu sauté.
What’s the view: Aside from the waitresses’ legs (thanks to those famous miniskirts), Beverly Blvd.
Amenities: Sorry, no valet, lobby lounge or poolside service. “Motor hotel” is just two syllables away from “motel.”

101 Coffee Shop
Room: Hollywood Best Western Hotel
Scene: Cowboys and starlets belly-up to the wood-grained Formica counter.
Cuisine: American classics on the Cajun tip, like blackened catfish, grits and fried chicken.
What’s the view: As the name suggests, the approach to the 101 freeway.
Amenities: Ahem, this is an even divier Best Western than most Best Westerns. You park yourself and take in your own bags.
