David Myers' long-awaited, much-chronicled brasserie will open this very good third Friday of October. Like all new restaurants in L.A., Comme Ça played the timing-guessing game—and sucked at it big time. Original ETA: late August. And when September didn't happen, we heard November. But we do give it massive props for sliding in before this month is out.

True to the format of a brasserie à la NYC's Balthazar, Comme Ça will eventually be open from breakfast to midnight. For now, dinner and late menu service begins Friday. We called, spoke to the patient reservationist and were told early (around 6 p.m.) and late (9 p.m. and after) hours were still available for opening night and through the weekend. Excellent.

We beheld the chic interior during the opening party. While it read more Edwardian manor to us than Parisian maison, we totally dug the wall-to-wall chalkboards upon which were scrawled daily specials, philosophical musings, impressionistic sketches and typos, to boot. We're taking a pack of Crayola chalk for our visit to see if customers can get in on that action.

Can't make it this weekend? You'll get there soon enough. Until then, take a gander at our time at the opening party.»
