Jodi Maroni’s Sausage Kingdom: Jody Maroni has been in charge of the Sausage Kingdom for almost 30 years, keeping it simple and successful with a menu of sausages, hot dogs, fries and Coke. The restaurant is no more than a traditional hot-dog stand, but unlike other fast-food joints, Jody Maroni doesn't have a sadistic king with an oversized plastic head or a freaky clown—or some studio fat cat—for a figurehead.

In-N-Out: Sharing its name with the WGA-penned flick starring Kevin Kline—therefore, pro-writer by default—this beloved piece of L.A.-cana offers life's basic necessities: burgers, fries and shakes. Frequented by Angelenos of all stripes—rich or poor, employed or unemployed, celeb or blue collar writer, er, worker—the place gets packed in the wee hours with people trying to decide if they want their chocolate shake animal style, too. And with its drive-thru origins, In-N-Out has mastered the art of wrapping up the burgers so tight, you'll have the cleanest shirt-front along the entire line.

Vegan Express: Don't be misled by the blah interior: the unassuming little Vegan Express is a pioneer among L.A.'s vegan eateries. Menu items include salads with an abundance of animal-safe yumminess, overflowing with avocado and crispy marinated tofu. This place delivers the goods and the good-for-you. Who says you can't strike and eat healthy at the same time?
