The unassuming little Vegan Express is a pioneer among L.A.'s vegan eateries. The location is perched at the top of the Cahuenga Pass and is still among the city's best. Don't be misled by the blah interior. Menu items include salads which have an abundance of yumminess, overflowing with avocado and crispy marinated tofu to mock chicken and fluffy pancakes. This place delivers the goods (and the good-for-you). A few die-hard vegans have expressed concern that the meats may contain casein, a dairy derivative. So if you're a militant greenie, stay away. But you'll be missing out.
