As L.A.'s downtown scene continues to flourish, the ROYALE on Wilshire is a luxurious gem that's still happily existing underneath the radar enough to make it one of our favorite after-work spots for drinks and making new friends. In this glamorously decadent space, the bartenders are fast and friendly, Stella Artois is on tap (always a bonus) and there's an enormous 30-person booth in the back of the sprawling main room that's perfect for a full-on party-within-a-party. Upstairs you'll find a nice lounge for taking things with that cute new friend to the next level, as well as another room with a pool table for sinking shots. Yet another downstairs lounge sits between the main room and patio, with a flat-screen TV showing everything from hip-hop videos to classic episodes of "Saturday Night Live." The back patio is awesome, and yes, that is a pool and hot tub lurking behind the wooden wall. Why this place isn't packed beyond belief on the regular is beyond me—but that's OK, more room for us!
