The oldest soul food restaurant in Los Angeles, Bertha's has been in operation for more than four decades, serving some of the juiciest chicken and tastiest vegetables this side of the Mississippi. And by vegetables, we don't mean that raw Cali stuff — think boiled cabbage, creamed corn and mac and cheese (yes, it's a vegetable in the South). The gumbo, served only on the weekends, often requires not only a spoon but those natural utensils known as hands.
