Doug Arango’s is named for the Chef Christopher Bennett’s late cousin, who urged his family to open a restaurant. In trendy West Hollywood, this clubby California-Italian is a bit of an anomaly: the room is quiet enough to have a conversation. Better yet, the food is delicious if relatively basic. That’s not to say adventurous foodies won’t find anything interesting to eat here; the progressive scallop-tasting offers five preparations from simple to complex, the wine list features more than 500 labels, and sweetbreads hold a bold place among the appetizers.
