Taco truck night

Technically speaking, taco trucks in most parts of L.A. are only supposed to stay in one spot for an hour at a time, but the rules are rarely enforced and the punishment is tiny—which is why so many lovers of inexpensive and delicious Mexican creations can rely on the unfailing presence of their favorite truck. But this new ruling may change what has become a way of life for many taco lovers.
That doesn't sit well with local awesome dudes Aaron Sonderleiter and Chris Rutherford. In one fell swoop, they started a website (SaveOurTacoTrucks.org) and galvanized a movement that comes to a head tonight. They've put the call out for everyone to visit their favorite trucks on this first day of May—even if it's a truck in incorporated L.A. County, and therefore unaffected (so far) by the regulations. These guys will be hitting up the La Estrella truck in Highland Park. "We want county-wide support of all taco trucks, everywhere," says Aaron. La Estrella is their longtime favorite, and as Chris says, "For us to suddenly drive 20 minutes just for a photo op at some truck we’ve never visited would reek of opportunism."
We certainly wouldn't want anyone to reek of opportunism, but we do encourage reeking of onions and cilantro and carnitas. Party people, to the trucks!
Aaron, Chris, and their taco-loving cohorts will be at the La Estrella on Ave. 54 and York Blvd. tonight (Thursday, May 1) at 8 p.m.
